Building Regulations - Part P

These came in to force on January 1st 2005. Electrical Installation work is now classed as Building Work and hence must be notified to Building Control before the work commences unless either:

The proposed work is to be undertaken by a Competent Person Authorised under the new legislation to Self-Certify Compliance. (Such as an NICEIC Registered Domestic Installer) or
The proposed work is of a minor nature. (e.g. replacement of light fittings or sockets etc).

Failure to comply with Building Regulations is a criminal offence and local authorities have the power to require removal or alteration of completed work that does not comply with these requirements. Householders may encounter problems selling their properties if work carried out does not comply with Building Regulations.
